My Tips For Skin Hydration*
Coming up to my wedding I became a little bit obsessed about getting my skin in the best condition possible. Make up can only do so much and I've always sadly been aware that this is both an inside and an outside job.
When the day came I was so happy I had taken all the steps and genuinely felt glowing from within.
These are my tips for keeping your skin hydrated and naturally glowy:
It is almost boring saying it but water is key. All skin types need hydration to keep skin healthy and functioning properly and we know we need to drink approx 2 litres of ( preferably filtered) water per day. For some random reason having never drank coffee before, about a year or so I took it up. Within three months of maybe one or two coffees a day I could see a huge difference in the dehydration of my skin. I tried giving up coffee entirely, but that wasn't really an option as I've decided I like it a little too much. That said upping my water intake and drinking an extra pint of water for every coffee seems to compensate for this. Also if water is just too boring to handle I like adding vitamin sachets like Revive Beauty Complex which flavour the water just enough.
Hydrated skin is all about preparation, even before you use your creams. If you aren't exfoliating regularly your products can't sink in and do the work they're supposed to do. I've searched high and low for a good exfoliant that wouldn't give me thread veins (anything gritty) or make me break out (anything glycolic) and I finally found the Yonka Gommage which is the best and most gentle exfoliant I've ever used. You layer it onto clean dry skin and after a few minutes it forms a jelly like consistency which you roll off your skin and it takes the dead cells with it. By doing this regularly my skin feels much smoother and also I know the products are sinking in more effectively. It's become my hero product from the range.
Now into the main act, once your skin is well prepped getting the right moisturiser is essential. A key ingredient to achieve these results is Hyaluronic Acid, a natural component in the skin which depletes from age. Yonka Hydra cream and fluide has both High and Low molecular Hyaluronic Acid which ensures that the deeper levels of the skin gets a good " drink" as well as the surface. This is suitable as a day and/or night cream. On the morning of my wedding this was my base. I also use the Yonka Hydra+ booster when I want to enhance my moisturizer. You use just 1 pump in your usual cream to unhance it. On mini-moon in Lisbon this was needed!
If your skin feel really tight then an intensive treatment may be needed. Yon-Ka Hydra No 1 Serum applied to face and neck before the Hydra No1 Cream can quickly replenish the skins plumpness and repair side effects of essential moisture loss. Consistency is key though and I think you need to use it for at least six weeks to notice a difference.
Eating Water Rich Foods
Whilst we all know about drinking water, eating water rich foods also really helps keep hydration in balance. In >this study< the most hydrating fruits and vegetables are listed and it's great to include them in your diet where possible. Water helps transport oxygen, fat and glucose to muscles, regulate your body temperature, digest food and eliminate waste products from the body and eating water rich foods give you the added vitamin benefits as well as the hydration.
It's easy to be overwhelmed when it comes to supplements and there are certain health food stores I avoid because I leave with 3 or 4 things that go dusty on my shelves as I take everything the sales assistants say verbatim and over-spend. What I will say I do know for sure is that some healthy fats and a good probiotic will make a difference to your overall well-being and also your skin. Anyway those are all my tips. I hope they're useful. It's my birthday in a month and I want to be as glowing as possible on the day. I think ageing is inevitable but taking the above actions makes me feel that little bit more in control of things in some tiny form.
