I have long had a fascination with polka dots. I wondered why they had such childish connotations until I recently had to do a full story on them for TV3 Xposé. In my research I learned that my, like many people's, first introduction to the print was via Minnie Mouse. Minnie always wears a polkadot bow and dress and looks fabulous in them!
Childhood style icons aside the print is having a resurgence at the moment. It also has a timeless feel to it. It can feel very fifties and yet still feels fresh today in 2015.
I fell in love with this little playsuit from online retailer Dresses Ireland. I love a playsuit and find them so comfortable. Being tall they need to be long in the body which this is. It also has a belt at the waist which is so important to retain some shape to the look overall.
When it comes to wearing anything with a print it's always important to keep everything else simple. I added my All Saints leather jacket, a pair of black wedges and a fedora. I stuck to the monochrome palette by simply adding black but primary colours like red would work well in combination.
Given the recent heatwave Ireland is experiencing it truly is time to break out Summer clothes. If you're worried about investing for a potentially non-existent Irish Summer with pieces like this, a pair of thick tights, and a chunky cardigan would bring it into Autumn.
For now a classic wedge and a bare leg was perfect.
What's lovely about this playsuit is the neckline is just calling for something beautiful. Keeping with the circular theme I added this two circle necklace from GlitzN'Pieces.
That really was all that was needed.
Hanging out in the playground of Merrion Square with photographer Aaron Hurley the evening sun was beautiful. A little girl was carrying a Minnie Mouse lunchbox. Clearly we both had the same style icon on that day!
Hope you are all having a gorgeous stylish Summer so far!
Till next week!
Lots of love,
