The Irish Summer is living up to it's legacy. In place of beaming sunshine and warm weather there have been days and days of rain and gloom. It's been a busy few weeks and with everyone heading off for the long weekend I decided to stay close to home and put the money into some pampering.

During my time as a beauty writer for Social and Personal I was lucky enough to visit lots and lots of salons and spas. It would be remit of me to say all were flawless and perfect. In fact plenty of places disappointed. The good thing about this is that those that do things well, really well, stand out.

The Marker is exactly one of those places. Even the most meticulous eye would find it hard to fault almost anything.

I booked myself in for a 'Sunday Package' in the spa. This consists of a 60 minute massage followed by a 30 minute refresher facial. The real value in this comes from checking in an hour earlier and using the beautiful pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam, and I did just that. The pool area is so lovely and squeaky clean.

This is not one of those pools that welcomes kids to cannon ball in and makes you wear a swimming cap (I defy anyone to look even vaguely OK in one of those) as was a recent experience. This is a slick, dimly lit cocoon of wonder.

When it was time for my treatment I was initially asked to choose between two oils for the massage. I chose the calm mind one. The massage was heavenly. Some people might enjoy, relish even, the agony of having someone put an elbow in their back and twist them into contortions, but I prefer to completely chill, maybe even snooze, and go for the relaxing version. I recall being asked to turn around for my front to be massaged followed by my facial but it's all a blur, a lovely, much enjoyed blur.

After my treatment I was led to the chill out area and served a peppermint tea and a little sorbet and juice. One thing I will say is they had lovely new magazines in the magazine rack. I hate when places have old tatty magazines from 2013 floating around. I read all about Kate Middletons new life as a mum of two in this week's Hello and vowed to be more princess-like as you do in a post spa zone!

Not wanting the experience to end he and I went to the bar for some food. The brilliant thing about the Marker is the new healthy options menu.

We started with a shared plate of smoked salmon and gluten-free bread.

Then moved onto refuel salads..

I had avocado, coconut and lime cake for dessert, which is like vegan cheesecake.

I've given up dairy and find desserts are the trickiest area to navigate. I wish more places would be this inventive as it tasted gorgeous and completely ticked the dessert space relatively guilt free.

The Sunday package at The Marker costs €115. I have to say I absolutely loved it!

Lots of love,
