Detox Body Products and Grounding Techniques*

Due to staring at a screen for a lot of the time I find I need to ground myself regularly at the end of the day. For me being grounded means being present physically, emotionally and energetically ‘in my body’. It means my mind is not wandering leaving me frazzled and my mind jumping endlessly.

There are a lot of techniques to ground and I was reading recently about Earthing, which you can learn more about >here< and find the research fascinating but it’s not always possible at the end of the day to go outside and stand barefoot.

I’ve read Eckhart Tolle’s ‘The Power of Now’ also and in theory it makes sense but it was only when I put a few simple body care rituals into practice at the end of my day that I truly felt more grounded emotionally and physically.

It’s very easy to neglect bodycare especially throughout the Winter months when you’re hidden underneath layers of jumpers, jackets, and tights but dry skin brushing and a few simple body and beauty care routines have really made a difference in terms of how I feel at the end of the day.

Lately I’ve got into a ritual of taking a bath every evening - sometimes just for 10 minutes - and it massively helps me de-stress, sleep better afterwards and feel grounded. I used to get bored very easily and my mind would wander and but I try to always have a book nearby and leave my phone outside. I don’t like anything synthetic or chemical based and simply add in the Yonka Phyto Bain or a few sprays of the Huile Detox and that’s it. The aroma alone signifies the end of the day and relaxation to me.

Exfoliation is key..

Naturally not everything can be solved with a shower but if my mood is stuck and I’m feeling irritable having a really really good scrub, followed by a final blast of cold water at the end really brings me back into my body.

The Yonka scrubs are my favourite because they're the perfect combination of grit, in the form of a thick dense scrub, and gentleness, as when they come into contact with water they form a milky texture which dissolves easily and rinses off effortlessly.

I try to do this at least once a fortnight, more if I am using tanning products or thicker suncreams. I typically use it with scrub gloves and only use a small amount on dry skin. There are two Yonka sugar scrubs, one for vitality with lots of orange essential oils but I prefer the relaxing one for the evening when I am winding down.

Focus on your feet..

When your feet are rubbed and manipulated, it brings energy to the entire body. According to theories of reflexology, foot massage releases any blockages that can hold back energy that should be flowing through the body freely and is restorative. Even if it’s just for two minutes at the end of the day I find massaging a few sprays of the Yonka Huile Detox onto the soles of my feet so soothing before bed.

Follow your breath..

One thing that doesn’t require any equipment and you can do anywhere is to simply follow your breath. By that I mean solely focus on tuning into your breath as you inhale and exhale. My mind can be like a restless toddler and hard to focus but by concentration on just breathing in for a count of 4, holding for 4, and exhaling for 4 seconds almost always calms me down within a few cycles. I’ve done this at night when sleep isn’t coming, on planes and even in the middle of intense discussions. Remembering to do it is the only hard part. Like most things it’s simple, but not always easy, but it’s a handy one to return to.
