Bank Holiday Bliss in Donegal

It's been a manic few weeks and a long time ago, knowing our wedding is in May, I earmarked Easter's lovely long weekend for a break for ourselves.

The bank holiday couldn't have come a moment too soon and we wanted to go somewhere and chill out. I don't know Donegal that well at all but when I looked Solis Lough Eske hotel up it ticked all the boxes. It had beautiful food, an amazing spa and looked so comfortable and cozy. We booked in and luckily there was space. When we were actually there the hotel had over 200 staying. It's a popular place and we now know why! The decor is a nod to the castle heritage but feels comfortable and inviting.

On Saturday we climbed Sliabh Liag which was about an hour drive from the hotel. You can do this in different ways and we took it easy and drove towards the summit and walked the last part. At the top there was a little coffee and soup cart and also a lovely lady with some rescue lambs.

This guy was only a week old and so sweet.

That night we had dinner and there were some great vegan and vegetarian options but the desserts really topped things off. They did us a sharing plate of miniature versions of them all and it was amazing!

On Easter Sunday I booked myself into the spa for a Yonka Phyto Fermet√© body treatment. I was wrapped in bandages soaked in essential oils and then cocooned in a heated blanket which activated the oils. To be blunt it's a very sweaty detoxing treatment. After about half an hour the bandages were removed and I was given a really intense firming massage with a toning oil. I left feeling like I had been wrung out in an incredible way and will definitely be getting this treatment done before my wedding. Genuinely I felt invigorated afterwards.

We drove home in just over three hours feeling more recharged then we both expected but I suppose that's the sign of a great mini-break. We really loved Donegal and will definitely be back again soon.

I hope you all had a gorgeous bank holiday weekend and a very happy Easter!

Lots of love,

We were offered a discounted rate for our stay in Solis Lough Eske however all opinions and imagery are my own and uninfluenced.
