My Beauty Hero Products
Beauty, similar to fashion, has a constant flow of new trends and offerings. Whilst some might get excited, personally I’m living in a post Marie Kondo era where I am trying to minimise the amount of products I have. What I have realised is that time and time again, whatever the occasion, I turn to the same products. These are the hero beauty products I love, use and 100% recommend. All are completely cruelty free naturally.
Skincare has become a real passion of mine. Obviously I am now 35 so taking care of it is more preventative and important than in my twenties but it’s something I really love. Those moments at the end of the day are like a reset button. I typically gravitate towards aromatherapy based products, and am an ambassador for Yonka Skincare, and how something is packaged, where the ingredients are sourced and how it smells are as important as the efficacy. Products I love and use daily include: Yonka Lait Nettoyant, Lotion PNG, Yonka Sensitive Cream & Defense + Booster I also really love Emma Hardie Protect and Prime - it’s the perfect base for make up and has SPF 30.
For deeper care at home my new favourite gadget is the NU Face and if I am going somewhere glam and want to do a smokey eye I love using the Tata Harper illuminating Eye Creme to brighten them first. For a bit of a glow one of the best facial tanners I have ever used is the Oskia Adaptive Tanning Drops - they work with your skin’s natural melanin and the result is so natural.
When I switched to Cruelty-free beauty the last part I was able to change was hair colour. It took a while before I found a product that worked effectively but was also natural. I now go to Davey Davey and get Natulique colour monthly and I maintain it at home with their shampoo & conditioner. The products in the range have a minimum of 95% of the total ingredients from a natural origin. In between appointments Colour Wow is a real saviour when roots come though.
Otherwise before blow drying I use a tiny amount of Aveda Smooth Again and either smooth or attempt to curl it with a GHD. Styling wise I don’t like too much hold but two sprays that smooth frizz and maintain style in a natural way are Cool Girl Barely There Hairspray and OUAI Texturizing Hair Spray On holidays and if I am doing a lot of styling I always apply Natulique heat and sun protector.
I am always going for pretty much the same kind of polished, well primed natural look. There’s a few failsafe basics I use daily beginning with Cover FX Primer. Bare Minerals Bare Pro foundation in shade Dawn 02 has been my go-to for over two years at this stage. I really love it. For concealing I use Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Concealer or else Fuchsia Full Coverage Correct and Perfect Mineral concealer.
I use Bare Minerals Brow Master on my brows.
Firstly on my eyes I like a little highlight. I find this makes the colour adhere better and also gives depth. I’m loving RMS Luminizer - in shade Magic - it’s completely natural product range using food grade organic ingredients. A palette I turn to almost daily is WetnWild Palette - Walking On Eggshells The range is completely vegan and the texture and quality is amazing especially given how reasonably priced it is.
If I want to go a bit more nighttime or smokey Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise in Mona Lisa is amazing. To line Bare Minerals One Fine Line is the finest I have ever used and really gets in-between your lashes or if you want a good vegan liquid liner Hourglass Liquid Liner is amazing and the packaging is beautiful. To finish it off one of my favourite mascaras is PS… Lash Contour.
Starting with something I throughout the day Molton Brown Rhubarb and Rose HandWash smells so fresh and summery. If I’m having a bath I love to fill an oil burner or diffuser with a few drops of Tisserand Mind Clear Diffuser Oil. Yonka Phyto Bain has a quintessence of five essential oil blends and soothes aching muscles and breathing in the essential oils is so relaxing. I recently discover the Goop bath salts are packed full of Epsom salts, herbs and essential oils and if you’re feeling a little run down, they are deeply detoxing. I love The Martini. About once a week I do a full body scrub with the Gommage Sucre - a little on some exfoliant gloves goes a long way and what I love about this scrub is that upon contact with water it becomes milky and rinses off easily.
I always have Dr Bronners Lavender Hand Sanitiser in my bag also. It doesn’t dry out my skin and smells lovely and fresh.
A few basics from Irish companies I always have in my washbag include Virtue Brush - which is a compostable toothbrush. For the rest of my dental routine I’ve written a more detailed post >here< I also love Flora Plus Fiona Carry On Travel Oil is lovely to dab on your pulse points. I use it when travelling and also before hot yoga. I also really like another great Irish brand Modern Botany Deodorant and biodegradable Cotton swabs are the only ones I will use.
For body tanning I really love Isle of Paradise Tanning Water in shade Light - the result is natural and there’s no transfer or smell. Oskia Renaissance Mask is lovely to revive my skin for an at home treat and to ensure a good night’s sleep I use This Works Sleep Spray on my sheets. If you want to see more of my sleep tips see >here< A perfume that will always be special Jo Loves - White Rose and Lemon Leaves -if you want a good read I highly recommend her book and this is a gorgeous fresh floral scent.
