My Spring Skin Saviours
Winter truly does take a toll on my skin and can leave it feeling taught and dull. January went by in a blur of attempting to get back into routine but I also felt my skin needed a little more TLC than usual. The following are a few habits and products that have a made a big difference:
My very best investment was a cold-press juicer and I notice such a huge difference in my skin when I juice regularly. Being a cold-press juicer means that it stays fresh for up to 3 days so a couple of times a week I make up a large batch. I have a little morning routine of a pint glass of warm water with a teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar in it first thing upon waking. I take this with a metal straw to protect my teeth. I then have my green juice and usually head to out to Yoga and have my breakfast when I come back. With my juices I tend to keep them as green as possible and I am loving celery juice currently.
Back in January I was on The Six O’Clock show with Dr. Rangan Chatterjee and found him fascinating. He gave me a copy of his new book The Stress Solution and I’ve found it eye opening. He has a very simple way of breaking down how the simple habits we can easily fall into such as not sleeping, endlessly scrolling on our phones, not investing in leisure time and our relationships can seriously damage our health and how the consequences of stress can lead to chronic disease. It gave me a much needed wake up to prioritise ‘shut down’ periods on social media, and bed time. I now have turned on the ‘Screen Time’ function on my phone and at 9 pm it shuts down my social apps. Of course you can still go into them but it gives you the option to set 15 minute reminders thereafter and I find that really useful.
Two things that really help switch off is taking a bath - even just 15 minutes- in Yonka Phyto Bain which is a highly concentrated aromatic bath treatment with plant extracts and essential oils known for their multiple therapeutic virtues and I also add in some Magnesium Flakes which is an essential mineral, promoting overall wellbeing, aiding skin health and relaxing muscles, effectively relieving tension and cramping. I also spray a little of the Magnesium oil on me afterwards. The BetterYou Magnesium Oil Goodnight spray combines essential magnesium with Chamomile, Bergamot and Clary Sage to soothe the senses while calming and relaxing the body and I really love it. For more of my sleep tips see my dedicated post.
I don’t generally take many supplements but around the cold spell I started taking a Vitamin C supplement. Vitamin C Plus contains 1000mg of vitamin C and studies have shown it contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue & normal energy-yielding metabolism.
I was very cautious about using any sort of at-home peel product for a really long time however I realised that was totally unwarranted. I got a facial in early January and was advised to try the Yonka Alpha-Peel for a fortnight. After cleansing at night I apply it and the micro-peeling action of fruit acids (AHAs) combined with mimosa tenuiflora, Hyaluronic acid and aloe vera has really improved the quality of my skin. It feels regenerated and brightened and much more fresh and radiant. I applied the Alpha Fluide Moisturiser on top and I will stick to this mini-peel routine on a bi-monthly basis now as I am thrilled with the gentle, yet effective, results. My make up goes on much smoother and it feels much less congested than before also.
In terms of products there are a few that I am using daily to brighten and protect my skin. Firstly I have long been a fan of Tata Harper’s illuminating eye cream. It is infused with brightening and light-reflecting pigments and I find it diminishes the appearance of wrinkles and reduces puffiness and kind of lights the area from within. Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer feels like silk on your skin, conceals redness, minimizes the appearance of pores and softens the look of fine lines. It also has broad-spectrum SPF 15. I mix this with a tiny drop of the Oskia City Life Booster, a powerful, highly concentrated formula developed to protect against specific indoor and outdoor pollution. It is fortified with Co-Enzyme Q10, Vitamin B3 and Astaxanthin, an antioxidant that is 6000 times more powerful than Vitamin E. It’s been Clinically-proven to protect against specific indoor and outdoor pollution, including Singlet Oxygen, Peroxyl, Hydroxyl and Halogenated Free Radicals also.
I found that when I changed to a vegan diet I didn’t seem to have the same tolerance for processed foods. I crave fresh nourishing home-cooked food more than I ever thought possible. It’s gradually trickling into every area of my life, even my cleaning products ( see >here< for what I use) and my make up bag is no exception. RMS Beauty products are formulated with raw, food grade and organic ingredients in their natural state, allowing their living, healing attributes to penetrate and rejuvenate the skin and I am definitely a fan. At the moment I love the Un-Cover up which is really hydrating and effective. As it’s a natural product you have to warm it up a little with your fingers first but I love what the brand stands for and how well it works. I tend to use products very slowly but as I need to replace items I’m going to be more conscious of ingredients moving forward.
I really hope these tips are useful and of course that Summer isn’t to slow on it’s way!
Lots of love,
